Problem Set 17 : 

Question no – (1) 

Solution : 

(1) 1/2 = __/20

Here the number 20 = 2×10

So, we multiply numerator 1 and denominator 2 by 10

1/2 = 1×10/2×10 = 10/20

∴ 1/2 = 10/20

(2) 3/4 = 15/__

Here the number 15 = 3×5

So, we multiply numerator 3 and denominator 4 by 5

3/4 = 3×5/4×5 = 15/20

∴ 3/4 = 15/20

(3) 9/11 = 18/__

Here the number 18 = 2×9

So we multiply numerator 9 and denominator 11 by 2

9/11 = 9×2/11×2 = 18/22

∴ 9/11 = 18/22

(4) 10/40 = __/8

If we divide 40 by 5 the answer is 8

So, we divide numerator 10 and denominator 40 by 5

10/4 = 10÷5/40÷5 = 2/8

∴ 10/40 = 2/8

(5) 14/26 = __/13

If we divide 26 by 2 the answer is 13

So, we divide numerator 14 and denominator 26 by 2

14/26 = 14÷2/26÷2 = 7/13

∴ 14/26 = 7/13

(6) __/3 = 4/6

If we divide 6 by 2 the answer is 3

So, we divide numerator 4 and denominator 6 by 2

4/6 = 4÷2/6÷2 = 2/3

∴ 2/3 = 4/6

(7) 1/__ = 4/20

If we divide 4 by 4 the answer is 1

So, we divide numerator 4 and denominator 20 by 4.

4/20 = 4÷4/20÷4 = 1/5

∴ 1/5 = 4/20

(8) __/5 = 10/25

If we divide 25 by 5 the answer is 5

So, we divide numerator 10 and denominator 25 by 5

10/25 = 10÷5/25÷5 = 2/5

∴ 2/5 = 10/25

Solution : 

•  1/2

For equivalent fraction with denominator 18.

We multiply numerator 1 and denominator 2 by 9

1/2 = 1×9/2×9 = 9/18

∴ 1/2 = 9/18

 2/3

For equivalent fraction with denominator 18

We multiply numerator 2 and denominator 3 by 6

2/3 = 2×6/3×6 = 12/18

2/3 = 12/18

•  4/6

For equivalent fraction with denominator 18

We multiply numerator 4 and denominator 6 by 3

4/6 = 4×3/6×3 = 12/18

4/6 = 12/18

•  2/9

For equivalent fraction with denominator 18

We multiply numerator 2 and denominator 9 by 2

2/9 = 2×2/9×2 = 4/18

2/9 = 4/18

For equivalent fraction with denominator 18

We multiply numerator 7 and denominator 9 by 2

7/9 = 7×2/9×2 = 14/18

For equivalent fraction with denominator 18.

We multiply numerator 5 and denominator 3 by 6

5/3 = 5×6/3×6 = 30/18

∴ 5/3 = 30/18

Solution : 

•  2/3

If we multiply numerator 2 and denominator 3 by 9

2/3 = 2 × 9/3 × 9 = 18/27

For 2/3 equivalent fraction is 18/27

∴ 2/3 = 18/27

•  5/7

If we multiply numerator 5 and denominator 7 by 2

5/7 = 5 × 2/7 × 2 = 10/14

For 5/7, equivalent fraction is 10/14

∴ 5/7 = 10/14

•  5/11

If we multiply numerator 5 and denominator 11 by 3

5/11 = 5 × 3/11 × 3 = 15/33

For 5/11 equivalent fraction is 15/33

∴ 5/11 = 15/33

•  7/9

If we multiply numerator 7 and denominator 9 by 2

7/9 = 7 × 2/9 × 2 = 14/18

For 7/9 equivalent fraction 14/18

7/9 = 14/18

Solution : 

•  6/15

For equivalent fraction with denominator 5

We divide numerator 6 and denominator 15 by 3

6/15 = 6 ÷ 3/15 ÷ 3 = 2/5

∴ 6/15 = 2/5

•  10/25

For equivalent fraction with denominator 5

We divide numerator 10 and denominator 25 by 5

10/25 = 10 ÷ 5/25 ÷ 5 = 2/5

12/25 = 2/5

•  12/30

For equivalent fraction with denominator 5

We divide numerator 12 and denominator 30 by 6

12/30 = 12 ÷ 6/30 ÷ 6 = 2/5

12/30 = 2/5

•  6/10

For equivalent fraction with denominator 5

We divide numerator 6 and denominator 10 by 2

6/10 = 6 ÷ 2/10 ÷ 2 = 3/5

∴ 6/10 = 3/5

•  21/35

For equivalent fraction with denominator 5

We divide numerator 21 and denominator 25 by 7

21/35 = 21 ÷ 7/35 ÷ 7 = 3/5

∴ 21/35 = 3/5

Question no – (5) 

Solution : 

•  7/9

Here we multiply numerator 7 and denominator 9 by 3

7/9 = 7×3/9×3 = 21/27

The 1st equivalent fraction of 7/9 is 21/27

Also we multiply numerator 7 and denominator by 5

•  7/9

= 7×5/9×5

= 35/45

The 2nd equivalent fraction of 7/9 is 35/45

∴ Two equivalent fraction of 7/9 is 21/27 and 35/45

•  4/5

Here we multiply numerator 4 and denominator 5 by 2

4/6 = 4×2/5×2 = 8/10

The 1st equivalent fraction o 4/5 is 8/10

Also, we multiply numerator 4 and denominator 1/5 by 4

•  4/5

= 4×4/5×4

= 16/20

∴ So, equivalent fraction of 4/5 is 8/10, 16/20

•  3/11

Here we multiply numerator 3 and denominator 11 by 3

3/11 = 3×3/11×3 = 9/3

The 1st equivalent fraction of 3/11 is 9/33

Also, we multiply numerator 3 and denominator 11 by 2

•  3/11

= 3×2/11×2

= 6/22

∴ Two equivalent fraction of 3/11 is 9/33, 6/22.

Problem Set 18 : 

Question no – (1) 

Solution : 

(1) 3/4, 5/8

For common denominator we multiply numerator 3 and denominator 4 by 2

3/4 = 3×2/4×2 = 6/8

So, 5/8 and 6/8 are like fraction

(3) 4/5, 3/10

For common denominator we multiply numerator 4 and denominator 5 by 2

4/5 = 4×2/5×2 = 8/10

So, 3/10 and 8/10 are like fraction.

(4) 2/9, 1/6

For common denominator we multiply numerator 2 and denominator 9 by 6

2/9 = 2×6/9×6 = 12/54

Also, we multiply numerator 1 and denominator 6 by 9

1/6 = 1×9/6×9 = 9/54

So, 12/54 and 9/54 are like fraction.

(5) 1/4, 2/3

For common denominator we multiply numerator 1 and denominator 4 by 3

1/4 = 1×3/4×3 = 3/12

Also, we multiply numerator 2 and denominator 3 by 4

2/3 = 2×4/3×4

= 8/12

So, 3/12 and 8/12 are like fraction.

(6) 5/6, 4/5

For common denominator we multiply numerator 5 and denominator 6 by 5

5/6 = 5×5/6×5 = 25/30

Also, we multiply numerator 4 and denominator 5 by 6

4/6 = 4×6/5×6

= 24/30

So, 25/30 and 24/30 are like fraction.

(7) 3/8, 1/6

For common denominator we multiply numerator 3 and denominator 8 by 6

3/8 = 3×6/8×6 = 18/48

Also, we multiply numerator 1 and denominator 6 by 8

1/6 = 1×8/6×8

= 8/48

So, 18/48 and 8/48 are like fraction

(8) 1/6, 4/9

For common denominator we multiply numerator 1 and denominator 6 by 9

1/6 = 1×9/6×9 = 9/54

Also, we multiply numerator 4 and denominator 9 b 6

4/6 = 4×6/9×6

= 24/54

So, 9/5 and 24/54 are like fraction

Question no – (1) 

Solution : 

(1) 3/7 __ 3/7

Here both the fraction are same so,

3/4 = 3/7

(2) 3/8 __ 2/8

Here the denominator is same and numerator 3 is greater than numerator 2

So, 3/8 > 2/8

(3) 2/11 __ 10/11

Here the denominator is same and numerator 10 is greater than numerator 2

So, the answer is 2/10 40/72

(6) 4/7 __ 4/11

For common denominator we multiply numerator 4 and denominator 7 by 1

4/7 = 4×11/7×11 = 44/77

Also, we multiply numerator 4 and denominator 11 by 7

4/11 = 4×7/11×7 = 28/77

So the fraction are 44/77 28/77

Denominator is same and numerator 44 is greater than numerator 28 so the answer is 44/77 > 28/77

(7) 10/11 __ 10/13

For common denominator we multiply numerator 10 and denominator 11 by 13

10/11 = 10×13/13×11 = 130/143

Also, w multiply numerator 10 and denominator 13 by 11

10/13 = 10×11/13×11 = 110/143

So, the fraction are 130/143 = 110/143

Denominator is same and numerator 130 is greater the numerator 110

So, the answer is 130/143 > 110/143

(8) 1/5 __ 1/9

For common denominator we multiply numerator 1 and denominator 5 by 9

1/5 = 1×9/5×9 = 9/45

Also, we multiply numerator 1 and denominator 9 by 5

1/9 = 1×5/9×5 = 5/45

So the fraction is 9/45 5/45

Denominator is same and numerator 9 is greater than numerator 5 so the answer is 9/45 > 5/45

(9) 5/6 __ 1/8

For common denominator we multiply numerator 5 and denominator 6 by 8

5/6 = 5×8/6×7 = 40/48

Also, we multiply numerator 1 and denominator 8 by 6

1/8 = 1×6/8×6 = 6/48

So the fraction is 40/48 6/48

Denominator is same and numerator 40 is greater than numerator 6

So the answer is 40/48 > 6/48

(10) 5/12 __ 1/6

For common denominator are multiply numerator 1 and denominator 6 by 2

1/6 = 1×2/6×2 = 2/12

So the fraction is 5/12 2/12

Denominator is same and numerator 5 is greater than numerator 2 so the answer is 5/12 > 2/12

(11) 7/8 __ 14/16

For common denominator we multiply numerator 7 and denominator 8 by 2

7/8 = 7×2/8×2 = 14/16

So the fraction is 14/16

Both the fraction are same so the answer is 14/16 = 14/16

(12) 4/9 __ 4/9

Here both the fraction are same so the answer is 4/9 = 4/9

(13) 5/18 __ 1/9

For common denominator we multiply numerator 1 and denominator 9 by 2

1/9 = 1 × 2/9 × 2 = 2/18

Denominator is same and numerator 5 is greater than numerator 2

So the answer is 5/18 > 2/18

(14) 2/3 __ 4/7

For common denominator we multiply numerator 2 and denominator 3 by 7

2/3 = 2 × 7/3 × 7 = 14/21

Also we multiply numerator 4 and denominator 7 by 3

4/3 = 4 × 3/7 × 3 = 12/21

So the fraction are 14/21 12/21

Denominator is same and numerator 14 is greater than numerator 12 so the answer is 14/21 > 12/21

1/6 = 1 × 9/6 × 9 = 9/54

Also, we multiply numerator 4 and denominator 9 by 6

4/9 = 4×6/9×6 = 24/54

So, 9/54 & 24/54 are the like fraction.

(15) 3/7 __ 5/9

For common denominator we multiply numerator 3 and denominator 7 by 9

3/7 = 3×9/7×9 = 27/72

Also, we multiply numerator 5 and denominator 9 by 7

5/9 = 5×7/9×7 = 35/72

So the fraction are 27/72 35/72

Denominator is same and numerator 35 is greater than numerator 27 so the answer is 27/72 11/55.

Problem Set 20 : 

Question no – (1) 

Solution : 

(1) 1/5 + 3/5

We know, if the denominator is same add numerator →

= 1/5 + 3/5

= 1+3/5

= 4/5

∴ 1/5 + 3/5

= 4/5

So, the answer is 4/5.

(2) 2/7 + 4/7

We know, if the denominator is same add numerator →

2/7 + 4/7

= 2 + 4/7

= 6/7

2/7 + 4/7

= 6/7

So, the answer is 6/7

(3) 7/12 + 2/12

We know, if the denominator is same odd numerator →

= 7/12 + 2/12

= 7+2/12

= 9/12

We divide numerator 9 and denominator 12 by 3.

Hence the answer is 3/4

7/12 + 2/12

= 3/4

So, the answer is 3/4.

(4) 2/9 + 7/9

We know, if the denominator is same add numerator

2/9 + 7/9

= 2 + 7/9

= 9/9

9 divide by 9 = 1

2/9 + 7/9

= 1

So, the answer is 1.

(5) 3/15 + 4/15

We know, if the denominator is same add number –

3/15 + 4/15

= 3 + 4/15

= 7/15

3/15 + 4/15 = 7/15

Thus, the answer is 7/15

(6) 2/7 + 1/7 + 3/7

We know, if the denominator is same add. Numerator –

2/7 + 1/7 + 3/7

= 2 + 1 + 3/7

= 6/7

∴ 2/7 + 1/7 + 3/7 = 6/7

Hence, the answer is 6/7

(7) 2/10 + 4/10 + 3/10

We know, if the denominator is same add numerator –

2/10 + 4/10 + 3/10

= 2 + 4 + 3/10

= 9/10

2/10 + 4/10 + 3/10 = 9/10

Thus, the answer is 9/10

(8) 4/9 + 1/9

We know, if the denominator is same add numerator –

4/9 + 1/9

= 4 + 1/9

= 5/9

∴ 4/9 + 1/9 = 5/9

Therefore, the answer is 5/9

(9) 5/8 + 3/8

We know, if the denominator is same add numerator –

5/8 + 3/8

= 5+3/8

= 8/8

5/8 + 3/8 = 8/8

We divide numerator 8 and denominator 8 by 1 hence answer is 1

5/8 + 3/8 = 1

So, the answer is 1

Question no – (2) 

Solution : 

Mother give 3/8 of one guava to Meena.

Mother give 3/8 of the guava to Geeta

Mother given the guava them altogether = Mother gave guava to Meena + mother gave guava to Geeta

= 3/8 + 2/8

= 3+2/8

= 5/8

Thus, 5/8 Part of the one guava given altogether.

Question no – (3) 

Solution : 

The girls of Std V cleaned 3/ 5 of a field.

The boys cleaned 1/ 5 part of the field.

Total part of the field was cleaned altogether

= 3/ 5 + 1/ 5

= 4 / 5

Total part of the field was cleaned altogether is 4/5.

Problem Set 21 : 

Question no – (1) 

Solution : 

(1) 5/7 – 1/7

We know, if the denominator is same subtract numerator –

5/7 – 1/7

= 5-1/7

= 4/7

∴ 5/7 – 1/7 = 4/7

So, the answer is 4/7.

(2) 5/8 – 3/8

We know, if the denominator is same subtract numerator –

= 5/8 – 3/8

= 5 – 3/8

= 2/8

We divide numerator 2 and denominator 8 by 2.

Hence the answer is 1/4

∴ 5/8 – 3/8 = 1/4

So, the answer is 1/4.

(3) 7/9 – 2/9

We know, if the denominator is same subtract numerator –

7/9 – 2/9

= 7 – 2/9

= 5/9

∴ 7/9 – 2/9 = 5/9

So, the answer is 5/9.

(4) 8/11 – 5/11

We know, if the denominator is same subtract numerator –

8/11 – 5/11

= 8 – 5/11

= 3/11

∴ 8/11 – 5/11 = 3/11

So, the answer is 3/11.

(5) 9/13 – 4/13

We know, If the denominator is same subtract numerator –

9/13 – 4/13

= 9-4/13

= 5/13

∴ 9/13 – 4/13 = 5/13

So, the answer is 5/13

(6) 7/10 – 3/10

We know, If the denominator is same subtract numerator –

= 7/10 – 3/10

= 4/10

We divide numerator 4 and denominator 10 by 2.

Hence, the answer is 2/5

7/10 – 3/10 = 2/5

So, the answer is 2/5.

(7) 9/12 – 2/12

We know, If the denominator is same subtract numerator –

= 9/12 – 2/12

= 9 – 2/12

= 7/12

∴ 9/12 – 2/12 = 7/12

So, the answer is 7/12.

(8) 10/15 – 3/15

We know, If the denominator is same subtract numerator –

= 10/15 – 3/15

= 10-3/15

= 7/15

∴ 10/15 – 3/15 = 7/15

So, the answer is 7/15

Question no – (2) 

Solution : 

As per the given question,

7/10 of a wall is to be paint Ramu paint 4/10 of all

Wall remain paint = Total wall paint – Ramu painted wall

= 7/10 – 4/10

= 7- 4/10

= 3/10

3/10 more needs to be painted.

Problem Set 22 : 

Question no – (1) 

Solution : 

(1) 1/8 + 3/4

Let make a denominator some by multiply numerator 3 and denominator 4 by 2

1/8 + 3/4

= 1/8 + 3×2/4×2

= 1/8 + 6/8

= 1+6/8

= 7/8

∴ 1/8 + 3/4 = 7/8

So, the answer is 7/8

(2) 2/21 + 3/7

Let, make a denominator same by multiply numerator 3 and denominator 7 by 3

2/21 + 3/7

= 2/21 + 3×3/7×3

= 2/21 + 9/21

= 2+9/21

= 11/21

∴ 2/21 + 3/7 = 11/21

So, the answer is 11/21.

(3) 2/5 + 1/3

Let make a denominator same by multiply numerator 2 and denominator 5 by 3 and also multiply numerator 1 and denominator 3 by 5

= 2/5 + 1/3

= 2×3/5×3 + 1×5/3×5

= 6/15 + 5/15

= 6 + 5/15

= 11/15

∴ 2/5 + 1/3 = 11/15

So, the answer is 11/15.

(4) 2/7 + 1/2

Let make a denominator same by multiply numerator 2 and denominator 7 by 2 and also multiply numerator 1 and denominator 2 by 7

= 2/7 + 1/2

= 2×2/7×2

= 1×7/2×7

= 4/14 + 7/14

= 4+7/14

= 11/14

2/7 + 1/2

= 11/14

So, the answer is 11/14.

(5) 3/9 + 3/5

Let make a denominator same by multiply numerator 3 and denominator 9 by 5 and also multiply numerator 3 and denominator 5 by 9

= 3/9 + 3/5

= 3×5/9×5

= 15/45 + 27/45

= 15 + 27/45

= 42/45

∴ 3/9 + 3/5 = 42/45

So, the answer is 42/45

Question no – (2) 

Solution : 

(1) 3/10 – 1/20

Let, make a denominator same by multiply numerator 3 and denominator 10 by 2

= 3/10 – 1/20

= 3×2/10×2 – 1/20

= 6/20 – 1/20

= 6 -1/20

= 5/20

We divide numerator 5 and denominator 20 by 5

Hence, the answer is 1/4

∴ 3/10 – 1/20 = 1/4

So, the answer is 1/4

(2) 3/4 – 1/2

Let, make a denominator same by multiply the numerator 1 and denominator 2 by 2

3/4 – 1/2

= 3/4 – 1×2/2×2

= 3/4 – 2/4

= 3 – 2

= 1/4

So, the answer is 1/4

(3) 6/14 – 2/7

Let make a denominator same by multiply the numerator 2 and denominator 7 by 2

6/14 – 2/7

= 6/14 – 2×2/7×2

= 6/14 – 4/14

= 6 – 4/14

= 2/14

= 1/7

We divide numerator 2 and denominator 14 by 2 hence the answer is 1/7

6/14 – 2/7 = 1/7

(4) 4/6 – 3/5

Let make a denominator same by multiply the numerator 4 and denominator 6 by 5 and also multiply numerator 3 and denominator 5 by 6

4/6 – 3/5

= 4×5/6×5 – 3×6/5×6

= 20/30 – 18/30

= 20 – 18/30

= 2/30

4/6 – 3/5 = 2/30

So, the answer is 2/30.

(5) 2/7 – 1/4

Let make a denominator same by multiply the numerator 2 and denominator 7 by 4 and also numerator 1 and denominator 4 by 7

2/7 – 1/4

= 2×4/7×4 – 1×7/4×7

= 8/28 – 7/28

= 8 – 7/28 – 1/28

2/7 – 1/4 = 1/28

So, the answer is 1/28

Question no – (1) 

Solution : 

(1) 15 pencils

1/3 of 15 pencils = 15/3 pencils = 5 pencils

15 divided 3 = 5

1/3 of 15 pencils is 5 pencils.

(2) 21 balloons

1/3 of balloons = 21/3 balloons = 7 balloons

21 divided 3 = 7

1/3 of 21 balloons is 7 balloons

(3) 9 children

1/3 of 9 children = 9/3 children = 3 children

9 divided 3 = 3

1/5 of 9 children is 3 children

(4) 18 books

1/3 of 18 books = 18/3 books = 6 books

18 divided 3 = 6

1/3 of 18 books is 6 books.

Question no – (2) 

Solution : 

(1) 15 pencils

1/3 of 15 pencils = 15/3 pencils = 5 pencils

15 divided 3 = 5

1/3 of 15 pencils is 5 pencils.

(2) 21 balloons

1/3 of balloons = 21/3 balloons = 7 balloons

21 divided 3 = 7

1/3 of 21 balloons is 7 balloons

(3) 9 children

1/3 of 9 children = 9/3 children = 3 children

9 divided 3 = 3

1/5 of 9 children is 3 children

(4) 18 books

1/3 of 18 books = 18/3 books = 6 books

18 divided 3 = 6

1/3 of 18 books is 6 books.

Question no – (3) 

Solution : 

(1) 2/3 of 30

= 2/3 of 30 = 60/3 = 20

= 60 divided 3 = 20

= 3/5 of 30 is 20

(2) 7/11 of 22

= 7/11 of 22 = 154/11 = 14

= 154 divided 11 = 14

= 7/11 of 22 is 14

(3) 3/8 of 64

= 3/8 of 64 = 192/8 = 24

= 192 divided 8 = 24

= 3/8 of 64 is 24

(4) 5/15 of 65

= 5/13 of 65 = 325/13 = 25

= 325 divided 13 = 25

= 5/13 of 65 is 25
