Solution :

Here we have to write numbers 1 to 20 in Roman numerals. For this we have to know basic symbols which are used in Roman numerals.

For 1 we write as I

For 5 we write as V

For 10 we write as X

Now, we write numbers 1 to 20 in Roman numerals.

  • 1 = I
  • 2 = II
  • 3 = III
  • 4 = IV
  • 5 = V
  • 6 = VI
  • 7 = VII
  • 8 = VIII
  • 9 = IX
  • 10 = X
  • 11 = XI
  • 12 = XII
  • 13 = XIII
  • 14 = XIV
  • 15 = XV
  • 16 = XVI
  • 17 = XVII
  • 18 = XVIII
  • 19 = XIX
  • 20 = XX

Question no – (2)

Solution :

(1) V

Here we have to write Roman numerals in number form.

We know,

V = 5

(2) VII

Here we have to write Roman numerals in number form.

We know,

V = 5

I = 1

VII = V + I + I

VII = 5 + 1 + 1

VII = 7

(3) X

Here we have to write Roman numerals in number form.

We know,

X = 10

(4) XIII

Here we have to write Roman numerals in number form.

We know,

X = 10

I = 1

XIII = X + I + I + I

XIII = 10 + 1 + 1 + 1

XIII = 13

(5) XIV

Here we have to write Roman numerals in number form.

We know,

X = 10

V = 5

I = 1

XIV = (X + V) – I

XIV = (10 + 5) – 1

XIV = 14

(6) XVI

Here we have to write Roman numerals in number form.

We know,

X = 10

V = 5

I = 1

XVI = X + V + I

XVI = 10 + 5 +1

XVI = 16

(7) XVIII

Here we have to write Roman numerals in number form.

We know,

X = 10

V = 5

I = 1

XVIII = X + V + I + I+ I

XVIII = 10 + 5 +1+1+1

XVIII = 18

(8) IX

Here we have to write Roman numerals in number form.

We know,

X = 10

I = 1

IX = X – I

IX = 10 – 1

IX = 9

Question no – (3)

Solution :

(i) We have to write 3 in roman numerals.

We know,

I = 1

3 = I + I + I

3 = III

(ii) We have to write VIII in number form.

We know,

V = 5

I = 1

VIII = V + I + I + I

VIII = 5 + 1 + 1 + 1

VIII = 8

(iii) We have to write 6 in roman numerals.

We know,

V = 5

I = 1

VI = V + I

VI = 5 + 1

VI = 6

(iv) We have to write XII in number form.

We know,

X = 10

I = 1

XII = X + I + I

XII = 10 + 1 + 1

XII = 12

(v) We have to write 15 in roman numerals.

We know,

X = 10

V = 5

XV = X + V

XV = 10 + 5

XV = 15

(vi) We have to write XIX in number form.

We know,

X = 10

I = 1

XIX =(X + X) – I

XIX = (10 + 10) – 1

XIX = 20 – 1

XIX = 19

Question no – (4)

Solution :

(1) 9 = IX

(2) 2 = II

(3) 17 = XVII

(4) 4 = IV

(5) 11 = XI

(6) 18 = XVIII

Question no – (5)

Solution :

(i) 4 given in roman numerals is wrong.

We know,

V = 5

I = 1

4 we write as,

4 = 5 – 1

4 = V – I

4 = IV

(ii) 6 given in roman numerals is correct.

(iii) 8 given in roman numerals is wrong.

We know,

V = 5

I = 1

8 we write as,

8 = 5 + 1+ 1+ 1

8 = V + I+ I+ I

8 = VIII

(iv)16 given in roman numerals is correct.

(v) 15 given in roman numerals is wrong.

We know,

X = 10

V = 5

15 we write as

15 = 10 + 5
