(A) Complete the following sentences.

Answer :

(B) Answer the following questions.

(1) “It was to be a battle of champions.

(i) What qualities did the two champions have? Pick out words and phrases from the paragraph above this line in the text and write them down.

Answer : 

The qualities did the two champions have is as follows

  • Mongoose :

(i) A superb fighter,

(ii) Very clever and swift,

(iii) Made calculated move,

(iv) Aggressive

  • Cobra :

(i) Experienced fighter,

(ii) Swift in speed,

(iii) Skillful,

(iv) Long sharp fans were full of deadly poison.

(ii) What did the cobra and the mongoose do, to show their readiness for the fight?

Answer : 

To show the readiness for the fight the cobra created a hissing sound and lifted there feet’s of its body up from the ground. Then it expanded its broad hood. The mongoose also declared the fight by bushing his tail and also the long hair on its back stood up.

(2) Who were the other two spectators? What did they do? (Did they watch, or did they join in the fight?)

Answer : 

The other two spectators were a myna and Jungle crow. At first they took place in the cactus to observe the result f the fight. They not only settled on the cactus to watch their fight but also took part in the fight later. But at the end, the crow got bitten by the snake and the myna flew away from there.

(3) Read the descriptions below of what the snake did and what the mongoose did. Arrange their actions in the proper order.

Answer : 

(i) Tried to mesmerize the mongoose → • Refused to look into the snake’s eyes.

(ii) Struck on the side that the mongoose pretended to attack → • Pretended to attack the cobra on one side.

(iii) Struck again and missed → • Sprang aside, jumped in and bit.

(iv) Struck the crow → • Darted away and bit the cobra on the back.

(v) Coiled itself around the mongoose → • Grabbed the snake by the shout.

(vi) Ceased to struggle → • Dragged the snake into the bushes.

(4) – (i) What happened to the crow in the end?

Answer : 

In the end of the fight when the snake whipped its head again and stuck with enough force, the crow has flung about twenty feet across the garden. Ultimately, the crow got bitten by the cobra and lay dead.

(4) – (ii) What did the myna do finally?

Answer : 

Then finally the Myna came near the ground and look into the bushes very safely. After giving a tempestuous cry the Myna flew away.

Working With Language :

(A) – (1) The word ‘round’ usually means a kind of shape, what is its meaning in the story

Answer : 

In the story the word ‘round’ means the courses of the cobra and mongoose’s fight.

(A) – (2) Find five words in the following paragraph, which are generally associated with trees. But here, they have been used differently. Underline the words.
