Chapter 3.1 : Tartary Exercise question Solutions

Question no – (1) 

Answer : 

Gold hammered into a flat, thin shape = beaten gold

Show off proudly = flaunt

Answer : 

Lord of Tartary expects bed of ivory and throne of beaten gold. In the court, peacocks flaunt, great fishes slant their fins in pond and tigers haunt in forests. At every meal, trumpeters would summon in courtyard bray. In evening the lamps would shine yellow as honey, red as wine and harp, flute mandoline would make sweet and gay music. Lord of Tartary would wear robe of white, gold and green beads which is thickly clustered like seeds. In the morning, seven zebras would draw the car through Tartary’s dark glades. The rivers are silver-pale and the hills are glen and thicket. The trembling lake is like foamless seas.

Question no – (8) 

Answer : 

Sundarbans is situated in the district South Twenty Four Parganas of west Bengal which is a well-known national park and mangrove forest all over the world. There are many rivers flowing through the dense forests. The soil is salty for being mixed with sea water. Trees like sundari, goran, geoa, hetal are examples of mangrove trees which have respiratory roots. It is also the famous place for royal Bengal tiger, crocodiles and many other creatures. People generally live on collecting fishes from rivers, honey and wood from jungles.

Answer : 

Consonance : bird-delighting, citron-trees.
