  • Working With The Text : 

(A) Answer the following questions.

(1) Why did Taro run in the direction of the stream?

Answer : 

Because of his intense thirst Taro ran in the direction of the stream. Besides, he had never seen a rushing stream or never heard the sound of this amidst the forest.

(2) How did Taro’s father show his happiness after drinking sake?

Answer : 

Sake gave him delight and little energy. So, Taro’s father’s shivering was stopped and he began to dace a little in the center of the floor. In this way, he showed his happiness.

(3) Why did the waterfall give Taro saké and others water?

Answer : 

The waterfall give Taro sake and others water because – The waterfall gave Taro Sake as he was very thoughtful as well as duteous son towards his parents and he had no greed for anything. So, the sake might be the gift from the waterfall due to his generosity and innocence. On the contrary, the villagers received plain cold water instead of sake, because they were very greedy.

(4) Why did the villagers want to drown Taro?

Answer : 

The villagers want to drown Taro because – When the covetous villagers came to the waterfall with their pitchers to collect the sake, they saw there is only normal water instead of sake. So, they became angry at Taro and thought that Taro had hocused them. Therefore, the villagers wanted to drown Taro there, to punish him.

(5) Why did the Emperor reward Taro?

Answer : 

The emperor of Japan rewarded Taro because of his kindness and goodness. He was very impressed by the way Taro served his parents very sincerely and obeyed them. Through this reward the emperor wanted to spread a message that every children should follow Taro and be like him.
