Cell and Cell Organelles Exercise question Solutions :

Question no – (1)

Answer :

(a) I am ATP producing factory.

= Mitochondria.

(b) I am single layered, but maintain cellular osmotic pressure.

= Vacuole

(c) I support the cell, but I am not cell wall. I have a body resembling net.

= I am Endoplasmic Reticulum.

(d) I am chemical factory of the cell.

= I am Mitochondria

(e) Leaves are green because of me.

= Leaves are green because of Chlorophyll.

Question no – (2)

Answer :

(a) If the mitochondria were present in the RBCs then the RBCs would have used the oxygen it carries.

(b) If there was no difference between mitochondria and plastids then animal would also gain the ability to change their body colors and Plastids will also start producing ATP.

(c) If genes were absent in the chromosomes then the offspring would not look similar to his parents as he won’t carry the traits of his parents.

(d) If the plasma membrane would not have been selectively permeable then harmful molecules will enter the cells far more easily.

(e) If plant cells did not have anthocyanin then the plant would have difficulty in producing purple or blue color in their body parts.

Question no – (3)

Answer :

(a) Here the odd one is – Plastids.

Because, apart from plastids all others are also present in animal cells.

(b) Here the odd one is – Chlorophyll

Because, apart from chlorophyll both are found in plants and animals.

Question no – (4)

Answer :

(a) Plasma membrane :

The function of plasma membrane is to separate the cell components from the outer environment and to selectively allow useful materials to pass through it.

(b) Cytoplasm :

The Function of cytoplasm is to hold the cell organelles in their position, act as a medium for chemical reaction and to store vital substances such as amino acids, glucose, vitamins etc.

(c) Lysosome :

The function of lysosome is to destroy viruses, bacteria and worn out organic debris, it also digest old or damaged cells.

(d) Vacuole :

The function of vacuole is to maintain the osmotic pressure of the cell, to store waste product and food, to provide plants cell with turgidity and to store metabolic end products and by products.

(e) Nucleus :

The function of nucleus is to control all the metabolic activities of the cell and also the cell division, It also transfers heredity character from parents to offspring.

Question no – (5)

Answer :

(a) Red tomato (4) Lycopene

(b) Green leaf (1) Chlorophyll

(c) Carrot (2) Carotene

(d) Violet (3) Anthocyanin
