Reflection of Light Exercise question Solutions :

Question no – (1)

Answer :

(a) The perpendicular to the mirror at the point of incidence is called Normal.

(b) The reflection of light from a wooden surface is Irregular reflection.

(c) The working of Kaleidoscope is based on the properties of Reflection of light.

Question no – (3)

Answer :

(a) We cannot see objects in a dark room because in order to see an object there must be lights that gets reflected off the object and get into our eyes.

Question no – (4)

Answer :

The difference between regular and irregular reflections of lights are as follows: –

  • Regular reflection :

The reflection of light from a smooth surface is called as regular reflection.

The angle of incidence and angle of reflection are same for all parallel rays.

The reflected rays are parallel to each other.

  • Irregular reflection :

The reflection of light from a rough surface is called as Irregular reflections.

The angle of incidence and angle of reflection is different for all parallel rays.

The reflected rays are not parallel to each other.

Question no – (6)

Answer :

• Is there a relation between the reflection of light and the blurring of the images?

= Yes, there is a relation between reflection of lights and blurring of the images.

• Which types of reflection of light can you notice from this?

= Irregular reflection of light can be noticed from this phenomenon.

• Are laws of reflection followed in these types of reflection?

= Yes, the law of reflection are followed in this type of reflection.

When Yash threw a stone in the water, irregular type of reflection started taking place. So the rays that came from their body gets reflected from the water surface into different places. So only some part of the reflected rays got into their eyes and thus only a blurry image was visible.

Question no – (7)

Answer :

(a) Given, the angle between the plane mirror and the incident ray = 40⁰

We know that the angle between the plane mirror and normal = 90⁰

Thus, the angle of incidence,

= (angle between plane mirror and normal) – (angle between plane mirror and incident ray)

= 90⁰ – 40⁰

= 50⁰

Here angle of reflection = angle of incidence = 50⁰

(b) Given, the angle between the mirror and the reflected ray = 23⁰

We know that the angle between the plane mirror and normal = 90⁰

So the angle of incidence,

= (angle between plane mirror and normal) – ( angle between plane mirror and reflected ray)

= 90⁰ – 23⁰

= 67⁰

Therefore, the angle of incidence will be 67⁰
