Working with the Poem :
(1) Answer the following questions.
(i) Who is the speaker in the poem?
Answer :
The poet, Frank Flynn himself is the speaker in the poem.
(ii) Is she/he afraid or curious, or both?
Answer :
The speaker seems to be both afraid as well as curious. He wants to know what is there is that shed, yet he is quite afraid as his brother has told him that there was ghost in the shed. He wanted to find out whether it was true or false. Also he wanted to take a glance through the window of the shed oneday, this shows his curiosity.
(iii) What is she/he planning to do soon?
Answer :
He is planning to enter the shed someday soon.
(iv) “But not just yet…” suggests doubt, fear, hesitation, laziness or something else. Choose the word which seems right to you. Tell others why you chose it.
Answer :
The above phrase suggests the feeling of doubt and hesitation. The speaker wants to be sure of his thoughts regarding the shed. He has overcome the fear that there is someone who stared at him, but his brother said to him that there is a ghost, which was definitely a lie. Still he wants more time to go there, that shows he feels quite hesitating.
(2) Is there a room in your house or a house in your neighbourhood/locality where you would rather not go alone, and never at night? If there is such a place and a story to go with it, let others hear all about it.
Answer :
Yes, there is a house in my neighborhood, I do not go alone there and never at night. It is a – house of a man of our locality. There is nothing but wastes. It looks also horrible, so one must have lots of courage to enter the house, especially in the night. Beside the house there is a field, we usually play there. One Day I was playing there cricket and the ball has gone inside the house. So, I went there to brought it and felt that someone was chasing me or standing just behind me. Without any delay I escape from there and never go there even for once.
