(c) What do you know about Meherjan’s family?

Ans: It’s very tragic. She has a family now. She lives alone. Once she had a happy family-her husband and off springs. But all have died of diseases caused from hunger and proverty.

(d) In which season is river erosion most likely to occur?

Ans: River erosion occurs most likely in the monsoon.

(e) Why is the phrase ‘greedy’ Jamuna used to describe the river? What greed do you notice in the description?

Ans: The phrase ‘greedy Jamuna is used here very significantly.

The river Jamuna is termed here as greedy because it grabbed almost everything from people like Meherjan. In the description, Jamuna’s greed for houses trees vegetable, garden, bamboo bush etc is noticed.

(D) Complete the summary of Meherjan’s life with words/phrases from the box.

Meherjan is a typical (1) homeless woman who lives in a slum. She lost her shelter and properties (2) due to the erosion of the river Jamuna. She also lost her family. Ans: To reuse any kind of things, we often have to wash, clean or repair these.

(3) What kind of household goods, clothes and toys can be donated?

Ans: We can reuse things like household goods, clothes, toys etc for ourselves or we can donate. Some used things to the poor.

(4) How can you sell your used items?

Ans: I may also sell some of my used items trough personal adds in a local newspaper.

(5) How recycling may help save our environment?

Ans: If we recycling any kind of things there will be less trash in a resource recovery ‘facility. So that’s why we should say recycling may save our environment.
