Question no – (4) 

Answer :

Sublimation :

The change in the solid substance when heating it changes directly into gas or vapour without changing in liquid this is called sublimation. This substances are change into directly gaseous form.

On heating, two substances which undergoes sublimation are Dry Ice and Solid Iodine.

Question no – (5) 

Answer :

(a) The sickles are used for cutting sugarcane is made from strong metals like iron.

= Because iron is hard and also shows other characters like ductility and malleability and for cutting sugarcane. we need hard equipment therefore this sickle is made from iron.

(b) The sheets are used for ruffing are made from aluminum.

= Because aluminum is light weight and durable.

(c) A screwdriver is made from steel.

= Because it is hard and use for fitting nuts and screw.

(d) A pair of tongs are made from iron or stainless steel.

= Because they are strong. If they are made from stainless steel then they are strong as well as rust free.

(e) Electric cables is made from copper or aluminum.

= Because Copper and aluminum is good conductor of electricity.

(f) Ornaments are made from gold or silver.

= Because they are ductile and therefore we can give them different shape also.

(g) Pots and pans are made from different metals. Like aluminum, stainless steel, brass.

= Because metals are good conductor of heat and also very durable.

Question no – (6) 

Answer :

(a) If nails are made from metals or if it is made from plastic then it is useless

Because plastic are brittle in nature we cannot hammer on it and it is useless.

(b) We known sonority is the property of metals the sound is produced by metals due to this property and we can listen sound of bell.

But if it is made from wood then we can not listen or hear any sound and this bell is useless because wood doesn’t have sonority character.

(c) Pair of tongs are used in kitchen and they are conductor of heat if rubber are not fitted on a pair of tong they are continuously heated and it is harmful to us.

(d) Knife is used for cutting purpose if it is made from wood then we cannot use it for cutting.

Question no – (7) 

Answer :

(a) I’m found in a thermometer, I measure your temperature

= Mercury.

(b) I make things hot or cold

=  Heat

(c) I have no shape whatsoever

= liquid and gas.

(d) I dissolve in water but not in kerosene

= Salt

Question no – (8) 

Answer :

(a) Coconut oil thickens in winter : 

In winter season temperature is very low and because of this low temperature the freezing point of coconut is oil is reached therefore coconut oil thickness in winter.

(b) Kerosene left open in a dish disappears : 

Kerosene left open in a dish disappears because Kerosene is a evaporating substance and if it is open then it is quickly evaporate.
