(2) Distinguish between:

(a) Observations and tests

Answer :

Observations and tests – In observations, we can only make some assumptions by observing but by testing, we can check whether our assumptions are correct or not.

(b) Research and survey

Answer :

Research and survey – Research is a study in depth or to find an answer to a question or curiosity but the process of collecting data related to a topic or problem directly and deriving a conclusion is called a survey.

(3) Write the reason:

(a) Precautions should be taken while conducting experimental work.

Answer :

Precautions should be taken while conducting experimental work: Random scientific work without following safety measures may cause accidents as well as affect the results of observations, tests and experiments.

(b) A report is prepared after the experiment and survey are done.

Answer :

A report is prepared after the experiment and survey are done: The report of the experiment or survey helps us to express information fully and in an organized manner and also helps us to study a research topic thoroughly.

(c) Observation is the first step in scientific learning.

Answer :

Observation is the first step in scientific learning: The rules, principles and characteristics of science can be studied by observing various natural and artificial objects, processes and events around the school and home.

(4) Write the answers to the given questions:

(a) What is observation?

Answer :

The process of experiencing an object, event or process very carefully using the sense organs is called observation.

(b) What is the importance of observation in scientific work?

Answer :

Observation is important in scientific work. The rules, principles and characteristics of science can be studied by observing various natural and artificial objects, processes and events around the school and home. Apart from that, some laws and principles related to science can be observed even by visiting zoos, botanical gardens, pharmaceutical companies and information communication companies.

(c) What is done in scientific work when there is not enough information from observation?

Answer :

When there is not enough information from observation in scientific work, a certain scientific procedure called test is followed in or outside the laboratory to check whether the assumption is correct or not.
