(1) British took steps towards granting freedom to India because

= The bells of revolution were ringing all around. Everyone wanted to get out of the chains of subjugation. No one wanted to wear the crown of subjugation anymore. The British also realized that the Indians could no longer be kept in check. They realized that despite all the fears, the Indians were no longer accepting their settlement and that they had set foot on the path of revolution.

(2)  Information about Mountbatten Plan is that,

= Mount batten prepared a plan of creation of India and Pakistan as two independent nations. Indian National congress opposed the plan of partition but the Muslim league remained adamant on the creation of Pakistan.

(3) Muslim League declare to observe 16 August as Direct Action Day because –

  • The demand of Pakistan was not being fulfilled. As the Muslim league decided for direct action in violent way so, this day was declared ‘Direct action day’.
  • The consequences of this decision were horrendous and riots broke out between Hindus and Muslims.
