From Shelters to Village-settlements Exercise question Solutions :

Question no – (1) 

Answer :  

(a) Wild bear, deer, mountain goat and sheep are the small animals that the Homo sapiens mainly hunted.

(b) The introduction of cultivation is the distinguished feature of the New Stone Age culture.

Question no – (2) 

Answer : 

(a) The climate became warmer, as it underwent a change. Mammals are, for instance big animals which were on the way to extinction due to rapid environmental changes. Hence, the diet of the Homo sapiens underwent a change.

(b) The changed diet pattern permitted the groups of Homo sapiens to wander to distant regions. According to the seasonal changes in climate, they moved their camps to different places. There they gathered seasonal grains and collected seasonal fruits and roots. They would discover the most suitable seasons for fishing and utilize the knowledge to their benefits. On observation, they found out the best grounds for hunting. Therefore, these reasons enabled the Homo sapiens to stay in one place for longer periods of time.

Answer : 

(i) Due to the seasonal changes, I frequently fall sick and I am bound to take medicines in order to recover from my sickness.

(ii) Rainy season makes it difficult for me to go out and perform the essential tasks.

Comparison between the New Stone Age village with a modern village are as follows :

New Stone Age village :

In New Stone Age village, humans resided in huts .

As it was in remote areas, New Stone Age village had no exposure to the outer world.

The primary activities undertaken by the villagers in the New Stone Age village were Agriculture, fishing and animal husbandry.

Modern village :

In Modern village, human beings resided in constructed houses.

With the means of transport and communication Modern villages are well – connected to the exterior world.

Apart from agriculture, fishing and animal husbandry, villagers in the Modern village are also engaged in several other activities with the help of machines.
