(a) The Neanderthals were neighbours of Homo sapiens for some period of time in Europe. Due to their conflict with the Homo sapiens and the incapability of the Neanderthals to adapt to the environmental changes, the Neanderthals became extinct.
(b) Home sapiens had evolved to a stage where they had fully developed larynx. The jaws and muscles inside their mouth were fully developed and their tongue was also flexible. Thus, Homo sapiens could utilize them in order to produce subtle and varied types of sound.
