Substances, Objects and Energy Exercise question Solutions :

Question no – (1) 

Answer : 

(a) We require a fine sugar in order to make sherbet but we only have sugar candy in the house. So in this situation, we can break the sugar candy into a fine powder. Now, this fine powder will dissolve rapidly in water. Thus, sherbet can be made very quickly, which can then be served to the guests.

(b) In this situation, we can crush salt crystals with the help of a grinder. Now, this grinded salt can be rubbed easily on a corncob.

(b) Every vehicle uses fuel whether in the form of petrol or diesel. If most of the people uses their own vehicles, then a huge amount of fuel will be consumed. So, if majority of the people will start travelling in public transport than a large quantity of fuel would be saved. Public transport such as bus or train has the capacity to carry a lot of people together, so as a result of which the fuel consumption will be reduced to a great extent.

Question no – (3) 

Answer :  

(a) Naphthalene has a property to turn into tiny particles in the form of gaseous state. When the small particles are kept in clothes, these particles get’s stuck to the clothes. So, if we keep naphthalene balls for a longer period of time inside the clothes, then due to these particles the clothes smells of naphthalene. The naphthalene balls decreases in size, when these particles leave the naphthalene balls and as a result of which these balls gradually disappears.

(b) In nature, water is found in three states. They are solid, liquid and gaseous. The individual particles of water remains alike in all the three states. However, the distinction lies only in the arrangement of particles in each of the three states. For this reason, a difference is seen in the properties of solids, liquids and gases. Each substances in nature are composed of particles. All the substances takes place in a specific form in nature. Consequently, that substance is termed as solid, liquid or gas.

(c) Solid refers to a state in which matter has a definite shape and volume. Liquid refers to a state in which matter acclimate to the shape of its container. The particles present in a liquid flows freely. For this reason, liquid has a constant volume but it cannot retain a definite shape. As for instance, oil, water and alcohol are those substances, that are commonly referred as liquid. Gas refers to a state in which matter expands to such an extent that it can adapt to the shape and volume of its container.

(d) There is requirement of energy to carry out work. The ability of a body to execute work is known as energy.
