Perimeter and Area Exercise 17A Solution :

Question no – (1)

Solution :

(a) Perimeter

= 5 + 2 + 5 + 2

= 14 cm

(b) Perimeter

= 11 + 13 + 12

= 36 cm

(c) Perimeter

= 6 + 6 + 8 + 8

= 28 cm

(d) Perimeter

= 8 + 8 + 8 + 8 + 8 + 8

= 48 cm

(e) Perimeter

= 1 + 6 + 1 + 4 + 4 + 1 + 6 + 1 + 4 + 4

= 32 cm

Question no – (2)

Solution :

Perimeter of rectangle = 2 (Length + breadth)

(a) Perimeter

= 2 (25 + 15)

= 2 × 40

= 80 cm

(b) Perimeter

= 2 (360 + 260)

= 2 × 620

= 1240 cm

3.6 m = 360 m

Question no – (3)

Solution :

Perimeter of Square = 4 × sides

(a) Perimeter

= 4 × 31

= 124 cm

(b) Perimeter

= 4 × 52

= 208 cm

Question no – (4)

Solution :

(a) Perimeter of triangle

= 3 + 4 + 5

= 12 cm

(b) Perimeter of triangle

= 9 + 9 + 9

= 27 cm

(c) Perimeter of the given triangle

= 8 + 8 + 6

= 22 cm

Question no – (5)

Solution :

Required length of tape

= 2 (40 + 10)

= 2 × 50

= 100 cm

Question no – (6)

Solution :

Let the sides = 3x, 4x and 5x

So, 3x + 4x + 5x = 24

=> 12x = 24

x = 2

Hence, the sides are,

3 × 2= 6 cm

4 × 2 = 8 cm

5 × 2 = 10 cm

Question no – (7)

Solution :

Length of string = 48

(a) If used to form a square,

then each side

= 48/4

= 12 cm

(b) Then each side become

= 48/3

= 16 cm

(c) The each side become

= 48/6

= 8 cm

Question no – (8)

Solution :

Let the third side is = x

then, 12 + 14 + x = 36

=> x = 36 – 26

= 10

Then the third angle is 10 cm.

Question no – (9)

Solution :

Perimeter of the park

= 4 × 50

= 200 m

Total cost will be,

= 200 × 10

= Rs 2000

Question no – (10)

Solution :

Perimeter the park

= 2 (40 + 20)m

= 2 × 60 m

= 120 m

Total cost will be,

= 12 × 120

= Rs 1440

Question no – (11)

Solution :

Rinky’s run over square field

= 4 × 50

= 200 m

and silky’s run over rectangle field

= 2 (70 + 50)

= 2 × 120

= 240m

Silky runs more by,

= (240 – 240)

= 40 m

Question no – (12)

Solution :

Perimeter of the rectangular park

= 2(65 + 55)

= 2 × 120

= 240 m

Total cost will be,

= 15 × 240

= Rs 3600

Perimeter and Area Exercise 17B Solution :

Question no – (2)

Solution :

Area of rectangle = length × breadth

(a) Area of the rectangle

= 2 × 3

= 6 km2

(b) Area of the rectangle

= 15 × 8

= 120 m2

Question no – (3)

Solution :

(a) Area of the square

= 10 × 10

= 100 cm2

(b) Area of the square

= 16 × 16

= 256 mm2

Question no – (4)

Solution :

Each side of square = √area

(a) Each side,

= √36

= 6 cm

(b) Each side,

= √169

= 13 m

(c) Each side,

= √144

= √12 × 12

= 12 mm

Question no – (5)

Solution :

Breadth of rectangle = Area/length

Length of rectangle = Area/breadth

(a) Breadth,

= 306/34

= 9 cm

(b) Length,

= 98/7

= 14m

Question no – (6)

Solution :

Area of the rectangular garden = 300 sqm

Length of the garden = 50 m

Then, the width of the garden

= 300/50

= 6 m

Question no – (7)

Solution :

Length of the tiling = 150 m

Breadth of the tiling = 120 M

So, the area of the each tiling

= 150 × 120 sqm

= 18,000 sqm

So, total cost for tiling

= 18000 × 8

= Rs 1,44,000

Question no – (8)

Solution :

Area of the floor

= 50 × 40

= 2000 sqm

Area of the carpet

= 30 × 30

= 900 sqm

Hence, area of the floor that is not carpeted

= (2000 – 900)

= 1100 m2

Question no – (9)

Solution :

Area for rectangle plot

= 135 × 45 sqm

= 6075 sqm

Area for square plot

= 75 × 75 m

= 5625 sqm

He should prefer the rectangle area because it has larger area.

Chapter 17 Review Time Questions Solution :

Multiple Choice Questions :

Question no – (1)

Solution :

Perimeter = 36

Breadth = 36/2 – 12

= 18 – 12

= 6 cm

Thus, Correct option is – (a) 6 cm.

Question no – (2)

Solution :

Each side = 96/4

= 24

So, area = 24 × 24

= 576 sq. cm

Hence, the correct option is – (a) 576 sq. cm

Question no – (3)

Solution :

Side = x

and area = x2

Side = 2x

and the area = 4x2

Thus, the correct option is – (a) The area becomes 4 times the area of original square.

Question no – (4)

Solution :

Area = 64

then side = √64 = 8

then perimeter = 4 × 8 = 32 cm

Therefore, correct option is – (b) 32 cm

Question no – (5)

Solution :

Area = 8 × 8 = 64

Cost = 64 × 50 = 3200

Thus, the correct option is – (d) Rs 3200

Question no – (6)

Solution :

Side = x, area x2 and perimeter = 4x

then, x2 = 4x

=> x2/x = 4

x = 4

So, the correct option is – (c) 4 units
