(a) Not liner equation.

Solution :
(a) 4x – 7 = 9
If x = 1 then 4 × 1 = 7 ≠ 9
If x = 3 then 4 × 3 – 7 ≠ 9
If x = 4 then 4 × 4 – 7 = 9
So, x = 4
(b) 8y = 48
If y = 1 then 8 × 1 ≠ 48
Y = 3 then 8 × 3 ≠ 48
Y = 6 then 8 × 6 = 48
So, Y = 48
(c) 2m/7 = 2
If = 1 then 2 × 1/7 ≠ 2
If m = 2 then 2 × 2/7 ≠ 2
If m = 5 then 2 × 5/7 ≠ 2
If m = 7 then 2 × 7/7 ≠ 2
So, x = 7
(d) 2x – 5 = 5
If x = 1 then 2 × 1 – 5 ≠ 5
X = 2 then 2 × 2 – 5 ≠ 5
X = 4 then 2 × 5 – 5 ≠ 5
So, x = 5

Solution :
(a) x – 7 = 2
(b) 8 +2x = 6
(c) 6 – x = 3
(d) x/2 – 14 7
(e) 2 + 4x = 26
(f) 8 – x = 15
(g) 6 + 4x = 18
If length = x
Breath = (x + 3)
= [x + (x +3)] = 18
(h) 37 + x = 46

(a) Sum of form times of a number and 5 is nine.
(b) Some of twice number and one is 5
(c) Subtraction of 7 from +2times of a number is 5.
(d) Multiplication of 3 and Sum of Y and 1 is 12.

Linear Equations Exercise 11B Solution :
Question no – (1)
Solution :
(a) x + 6 = 10
=> x = 10 – 6
∵ x = 4
(b) 5 = a + 2
=> a + 2 = 5
=> a = 5 – 2
∴ a = 3
(c) m – 12 = 3
=> m = 3 + 12
=> m = 15
(d) – 7 = x + 4
=> x + 4 = – 7
=> x = – 7 – 4
∵ x = – 11
(e) 4 + k – 7 = 2
=> k = 2 + 7 – 4
=> k = 9 – 4
∴ k = 5
(f) 3a = 6
=> a = 6/3
∵ a = 2
(g) a + 6/2 = 3
=> a + 6 = 3 × 2
=> a + 6 = 6
∵ a = 6 – 6
a = 0
(h) – 4 = x – 1/3
=> x – 1/3 = – 4
=> x – 1 = – 12
=> x = – 12 + 1
∴ x = – 11
(i) 2x = 4/9
=> x = 4/9 × 2
∵ x = 2/9
(j) 3x/2 = 1/8
=> x (3 × 8) = – 1 × 2
x = – 1 × 2/3 × 8
= – 1/12

Solution :
(a) Let the number be = b
So, 9b + 7 = 43
=> 9b = 43 – 7
=> 9b = 36
=> b = 36/9
∵ b = 4
(b) So, karishma’s age
= 11 – 5
= 6 years
(c) Let the other number = x
So, x + 12 = 84
=> x = 84 – 12
∵ x = 72
The other number = 72.
