Question no – (1) 

Solution :

(a) 3/4, 7/12, 5/6, 11/12

= 3/4, 5/6, 7/12, 11/12

(b) 5/4, 9/14, 16/35, 6/10

= 16/35, 6/10, 9/14, 4/5

(2) Solve :

Solution :

(a) 12/13 + 14/7

= 84 + 182/91

= 276/91

= 38/13

(b) 4 4/5 + 16/11

= 24/5 + 16/11

= 164 + 80/55

= 344/55

(c) 11/4 – 1/8

= 22 – 1/8

= 21/8

(d) 2 2/7 – 23/21

= 16/7 – 23/21

= 48 – 23/21

= 25/21

Question no – (3)

Solution :

Need to added,

= 7 3/7 – 5 1/5

= 52/7 – 26/5

= 260 – 182/35

= 78/35

Question no – (4)

Solution :

= Third side = 6 2/3 – (2 1/2 + 3 1/3)

= 20/3 – (5/2 + 10/3)

= 20/3 – (15 + 20/6)

= 20/3 – 35/6

= 40 – 35/6

= 5/6 cm

Therefore, The length of the third side is 5/6 cm.

Solution :

(a) 1/2 of 34

= 1/2 × 34

= 17

(b) 2/3 of 36

= 2/3 × 36

= 24

(c) 3/5 of 30

= 3/5 × 30

= 18

(d) 4/7 of 13/16

= 4/7 × 13/16

= 13/28

(e) 9/11 of 22/3

= 9/11 × 22/3

= 6

(f) 13/17 of 1 2/15

= 13/17 × 1 2/15

= 13/17 × 17/15

= 13/17

Solution :

(a) 4 3/4 × 7

= 19/4 × 7

= 133/4

(b) 2 1/3 × 5

= 7/3 × 5

= 35/3

(c) 10 × 2 2/9

= 10 × 20/9

= 200/9

(d) 1/3 × 2 2/5

= 1/3 × 12/5

= 4/5

(e) 1/5 × 3 4/7

= 1/5 × 25/7

= 5/7

Solution :

As per the question,

4 1/5 × 1 3/7

= 21/5 × 21/7

= 441/35 m2

Therefore, the area of the rectangular field is 441/35 m2

Question no – (5)

Solution :

Number of student play cricket

= 2/5 × 45

= 18

= Number of the student play football

= 1/3 × 45

= 15

Rest play tennis

= 45 – (18 + 15)

= 45 – 33

= 12

Fraction,

= 12/45

= 4/15

Solution :

According to the question,

In 1 hour vehicle can cover

= 70 3/4 km

= 283/4 km

In 2 2/5 = 12/5 hour vehicle can cover

= 283/4 × 12/5

= 849/5

= 169.8 km

Therefore, 169.8 km distance will it cover in 2 2/5 hours.

Solution :

(a) The reciprocals of 7/12 is

= 12/7

(b) The reciprocals of 5/8 is

= 8/5

(c) The reciprocals of 2 11/12 is

= 35/12

= 12/35

(d) The reciprocal of 3 17/21 is

= 80/21

= 21/80

Solution :

(a) 1 ÷ 2/5

= 1 × 5/2

= 5/2

(b) 4 ÷ 2/3

= 4 × 3/2

= 6

(c) 5 ÷ 15/2

= 5 × 2/15

= 2/3

(d) 1 4/9 ÷ 13

= 13/9 × 1/13

= 1/9

(e) 21/11 ÷ 7

= 21/11 × 1/7

= 3/11

(f) 3/5 ÷ 15

= 3/5 × 1/15

= 1/25

(g) 5/2 ÷ 15/4

= 5/2 × 4/15

= 2/3

(h) 3/11 ÷ 1/22

= 3/11 × 22/1

(i) 4/7 ÷ 20/49

= 4/7 × 49/20

= 7/5

(j) 7/9 ÷ 3 1/2

= 7/9 × 2/7

= 2/9

Solution :

(a) (2/9 ÷ 3/5) ÷ 6/5 of (3/5 × 2/15)

= (2/9 × 5/3) ÷ 6/5 of (3/5 ÷ 2/15)

= (10/27 ÷ 6/5) of 2/25

= 10/27 × 5/6 × 2/25

= 2/81

(b) (13/4 – 3/4) ÷ (17/9 – 1/2)

= (13 – 3/4) ÷ (24 – 9/18)

= 10/4 ÷ 25/18 = 10/4 × 18/25

= 9/5

(c) 2 2/7 ÷ 1 4/11 × 2 4/9

= 16/7 ÷ 15/11 × 22/9

= 16/7 × 11/15 × 22/9

= 3872/945

= 4 92/945

(d) 1 4/13 × 7 4/5 ÷ 11 1/3

= 1 4/13 × 7 4/5 ÷ 11 1/3

= 17/13 × 39/5 ÷ 34/3

= 17/13 × 39/5 × 3/34

= 9/10

Fractions Exercise 2.4 Solution :

Question no – (1)

Solution :

Length of each piece

= 3 3/7 ÷ 8

= 24/7 × 1/8

= 3/7 m

So, the length of each piece is 3/7 m.

Question no – (2)

Solution :

Cost of 1 kg apple

= 520 ÷ (6 1/2)

= 520 ÷ 13/2

= 520 × 2/13

= 80%
The cost of 1 kg apples is 80%.

Question no – (3)

Solution :

1 hr truck travel

= 471 3/2 ÷ 18 1/2

= 945/2 ÷ 37/2

= 945/2 × 2/37

= 945/37

= 25.54 km

Therefore, 25.54 km is the distance travelled by the truck in 1 hour.

Question no – (4)

Solution :

The number should be

= 42 ÷ 6 2/9

= 42 ÷ 56/9

= 42 × 9/56

= 5427/8

= 6 3/4

Question no – (5)

Solution :

The number

= 1 5/7 × 7 1/6

= 12/7 × 43/6

= 86/7

= 12 2/7

So, the number is 12 2/7.
