**Playing with Numbers Exercise 5.1 Solution :**

**Question no – (1) **

**Solution : **

**(a) 3 × 52 × a = a × 2 × 78**

= 156a = 156a

= a = any real no

**(b) 5a – 25 = 50**

= 5a = 50 + 25

= a = 75/5

= 15

**Question no – (2) **

**Solution : **

**(a)** 4 × 9 × 1 = 2 × 3 × 6

**(b)** 34 × 2 × 9 = 612

**Question no – (3) **

**Solution : **

**(a)** 56 × 6 = 3 3 6

= Divisible by 3

**(c) 200**

= Divisible by 2 5 5

**Solution : **

**32a5 = 3 + 2 + a + 5**

= 10 + a

= 10 + 2

= 12 ÷ 3

= 4

**10 + 5**

= 15 ÷ 3

= 5

**10 + 8**

= 18 ÷ 3

= 6

**∴** a = 2

**∴** a = 5, 8

**Question no – (6) **

**Solution : **

= 56b ÷ 9

= (5 + 6 + b) ÷ 9

= (11 + b) ÷ 9

= (11 + 7) ÷ 9

= 18 ÷ 9

= 2

**∴** b = 7

Thus, the possible value of digit b is 7

**Question no – (7) **

**Solution : **

= 8a6 ÷ 11

= {(8 + 6) – a} ÷ 11

= (14 – a) ÷ 11

= (14 – 3) ÷ 11

= 11 ÷ 11

= 1

**∴** a = 3

Hence, the possible value of digit a is 3.

**Question no – (8) **

**Solution : **

6 = 2 × 3

Now, 456 ÷ 2 = 278

= 456 ÷ 3 = 152

and 456 ÷ 6 = 76

But, 789 is not divisible by 2

789 ÷ 3 = 263

Therefore, 789 is not divisible by 6
