(a) Different types of kites :

In the past people were familiar with only paper kites with their thin wooden frames. But today people invent various types of kites such as motorized kites and fibre – glass kites. An another kind of kite is box-kite, which is illuminated and stung on one line for launching into the sky. These kind of kites are called tukals and are flown at night.

(b) International kite Festival at Ahmedabad :

International kite festival at Ahmedabad, organised by the Gujarat state Tourism Corporation, is held on the day of makar sankranti. Every year it is held either at the Sardar Patel Stadium or the police stadium. In this kite festival not only the international kite-flyers from Japan, USA, UK and many other countries participate but also the local champions also participate to show their skills. There are various shaped kites such as eagles and snakes soar into the skies. The most amazing part of this festival is that the kite-bazaar of Ahmedabad is open day and night for the whole week. People crowd the streets even in the midnight to buy their kites.

(c) The kite bazaar of Ahmedabad :

The kite bazaar or the Patang bazaar is the most highlighting part of the International kite festival at Ahmedabad, held on makar sankranti. It is in the heart of Ahmedabad, that is open the whole day and whole night during that one week. People are too excited to buy their kites from the kite bazaar, that they crowd the street even in the midnight also. Skilled craftsmen make various shaped of kites there.
