Chapter 2.2 : The Souvenir Exercise question Solutions

Question no – (2) 

Answer : 

  • Time table :

Day 1 : The shuttle will land on the moon and we will move forward to the Neil Armstrong base which is a human settlement on the moon. After that, we will listen the instructions of the receptionist and follow them accordingly. Then, we will go for sky watch which will be a very ecstatic moment for us.

Day 2 : On the second day, we will wait for the most attractive programme the circus on the moon. It will include long jumps and high jumps as special attractions. After that, we will go for visiting the local settlements and will do self-study about the learning on the moon.

Day 3 : At last on the third day, we will go to see the historical place where Neil Armstrong landed on the moon. After that, we will enjoy of wearing space suits for the first time to experience the gravitational force on the moon. Then we will go for shopping to buy some extraordinary things as souvenir in the settlements.

Answer : 

(a) Sayali was travelling in space for the first time.

(b) Many changes had occurred on the earth in the hundred years before Sayali’s trip to the moon.

(c) There were no old cities left on the earth.

Answer : 

  • Diary :

Day 1 : It was an amazing experience for us when the space shuttle finally landed on the moon. We listened the instruction of the receptionist carefully and moved forward for the Neil Armstrong base. Then we went for sky watch and saw the shining stars as there was no atmosphere.

Day 2 : On the second day, we enjoyed circus by sitting inside the tent which astonished us with high jumps and long jumps. We went to visit the local human settlements in groups. After returning we completed self-study about the total learning from the day.

Day 3 : On the last day of our trip, we went to see the historical place where Neil Armstrong kept his feet. I wore spacesuit for the first time and roam around the moon to experience its gravitational force. I went for shopping with my friends in the shops of local settlements. I bought a pair of earrings made of red stones by one thousand rupees for my mom in a hurry. But after reaching to the earth I realized about my mistake when my mom told me about the weight of the earrings.

Question no – (5) 

Answer : 

There are human settlements are prevalent on the moon which look like igloos of Eskimos. In those human settlements the gravitational force like the earth is maintained artificially to live. But the gravitational force is 1/6 that of the earth in the outside which is troublesome for roaming around freely. For that, there are only human settlements are mentioned in the story and not any cities or villages.

Question no – (6) 

Answer : 

  • Gravitational force :

Gravitational force is the kind of force with which the earth attract all objects within its centre. With this force any object fall down if throw from above places.

  • View of the sky when you are on the moon :

The view of the sky from the moon is totally different as it appears from the earth. There is no atmosphere in the moon for which the sky looks dark. In the dark background, the stars shine brighter than the earth.

  • Chandrayan mission of India :

Chandrayan mission is one of the important satellite mission conducted by Indian space research organization. It was organized to find air, water and other necessary components for human living.

Question no – (7) 

Answer : 

If I want to start human settlements other than the earth I will select mars for this planning. At first I will find water and air which are the most important components for human life. After that I will find suitable land for building the settlements.
