Question no – (1)
An ample quantity of proteins is required by the body for muscle building. The body constantly goes through wear and tear and here protein plays a significant role in providing the requisite care, so protein is essential for that purpose. Hence, an adequate amount of proteins should be included in the diet. Sometimes, our body gets subjected to injury. However, the cure and restoration of our body proceeds in a continuous manner without our being conscious of it. There is an adequate amount of protein requirement during the growing stage of an individual’s life. Therefore, sufficient amount of protein is required by the body.

The children are advised to drink milk on a regular basis because milk contains almost all the essential nutrients. Milk and milk products contains an appropriate balance of protein, carbohydrates and fat. Dairy products are rich source of vitamin A, vitamin B and vitamin D. Milk is one of the greatest source of calcium content and it is also easily digestible. It provides our body with the required amount of energy. When milk is included in our regular diet, it helps to fasten the growth and development of our body. So it is essential for the children to drink milk everyday.

(a) An adequate amount of energy is obtained from starchy foods. This energy is used by our body for executing different types of work. This energy also helps to keep the body appropriately warm. The sugars are formed from the digestion of starchy foods. These sugars then releases energy, by burning gradually in every parts of our body. In short, sugars as a fuels for our body that are formed from digestion of starch.
(b) The sources of fibre in our diet are :
- Fruits and vegetables
- Whole grains
- The skin or bran of the grain
- Sprouted pulses
- Green leafy vegetables
The food that is not digested is useless to the body. Fibre plays an important role in forming stool from this undigested food. If our body contains insufficient fibre , then it can lead to the problem of constipation.
(c) Carbohydrates :
Our food consists of three types of substances such as starch, sugar and fibre. These substances are collectively termed as carbohydrates. Carbohydrates plays an essential role in providing the required amount of energy to the body.
(d) Malnutrition :
For a well – nourished body, it is essential to receive all the different kinds of food constituents in an appropriate amount. Malnutrition refers to the condition when a person’s diet does not contain sufficient amount of constituents for a quite long period of time, then that person is subjected to improper nourishment. Malnutrition brings about serious health consequences on a person’s life. As for instance, a person’s growth is impeded, if the person does not get adequate amount of carbohydrates and proteins which is essential for the proper growth and development of the body. They are subjected to constant tiredness. They are unable to cope with their daily activities. Vitamin or mineral deficiency can lead to some specific type of disorders.
