They are mainly found in Asia and the artic region.

The reasons behind the development of rural settlement are – Nature of topography, Local weather Condition, Soil and water resources, Social organisation, Economic condition.

The types of the settlement is influenced by the natural socio historical and economic features of the place

(1) Linear settlement : when a settlement is formed parallel to the road on both sides of a road then it is called linear pattern settlement.

(2) Rectangular settlements : Such settlements are mainly formed under the influence of rectangular agriculture land. Rectangular settlements are usually observed on plain lands.

(3) Circular pattern of settlements : Circular pattern of settlements are usually formed when people settle in a certain place based on a special facility. It is seen that such settlements are formed around a pond.
