Solution : 

(a) The opposite of 5 km north is 5 km south.

(b) The opposite of 100 metres down is 100 metres up. 

(c) The opposite of up 5 floors is 5 floors down.

(d) The opposite of Increase of 10°C is decrease of 10°C.

(e) The opposite of Withdrawal of Rs 500 is deposit of Rs 500.

Solution : 

(a) A victory by 15 runs

= + 15

(b) A defeat by 3 goals

= – 3

(c) Saving of ₹ 200

= + 200

(d) Spending ₹70

= – 70

(e) 20° below zero

= – 20

(f) 100 m above the sea level

= + 100

Solution : 

(a) Opposite of 2 is -2

(b) Opposite of -17 is 17

Because, The absolute value of a number never be negative.

Solution : 

(a) 20 + 16

= 36 (positive)

(b) -21 + (-9)

= -21 – 9

= -30 (negative)

(c) 70 + (-22)

= 70 – 22

= 8 (positive)

(d) -100 + 80

= -20 (negative)

(e) -15 + 15

= 0 (Zero)

(f) -4 + (-7) + (-8)

= -4 – 7 – 8

= – 22 (negative)

= 9 + (- 4)

= 7 + (3)

(e) -7 – (-4)

= – 7 + (-4)

(f) 20 – 14

= 20 + (-14)

(a) 6 – (- 2) _ 7 – 5

= 6 + 2 _ 7 – 5

= 6 < 10

(c) – 7 + (- 10) __ – 7 – (- 10)

= – 7 = 10 __ – 7 + 10

= – 17 < – 3

(d) (- 15) – (- 15) _ – 15 – 15

= – 15 + 15 +__ – 30

= 0 > – 30

Question no – (5) 

Solution :  

(a) According to the question,

The sum of two integers = 50

One of the integers = -30

Other integer = ?

Other integers,

= 50 – (30)

= 50 + 30

= 80

Therefore, the other integer will be 80.

(b) According to the question,

The sum of two integers = -567

One of integer = 33

Other integer = ?

Other integers, 

= -567 – 33

= -600

Therefore, the other integer will be -600.
