(1) Correct the following statements and rewrite them in your notebook.

(a) Stem absorbs water and minerals from the soil.

(b) Leaves hold the plant upright.

(c) Roots conduct water to the leaves.

(d) The number of petals and stamens in a flower is always equal.

(e) If the sepals of a flower are joined together, its petals are also joined together.

(f) If the petals of a flower are joined together, then the pistil is joined to the petal.

The correct statement are –

(a) Roots absorb water and minerals from soil and supply to stem and whole plant. And root is at bottom while stem are upper side.

(b) Leaves are used to make the food for plat by the help of chlorophyll and sun light while roots hold the plant upright.

(c) Roots absorb the water from soil while the stem conduct the water to leaves

(d) No, the number of petals and stamens in flower is not always equal sometimes it may be equal.

(e) No, if the sepals of a flower are joined together its petals are not joined together.

(f) Sometime by chance the petals of a flower are joined together, then the pistils joined together not always.

(4) What is the function of a stem?

Answer : 

The function of a stem are –

  • Stem is a main part of a plant it holds the plant upright
  • Stem holds the leaves and fruit of plant
  • Stem conducts the food from leaf to whole plant parts
  • Stem conducts the water and minerals from roots to whole plants.

(5) Which of the following leaves have reticulate venation? Wheat, tulsi, maize, grass, coriander (dhania), China rose

Answer : 

Tulsi, China rose, and coriander has reticulate venation while wheat, maize, grass has parallel venation

(6) If a plant has fibrous root, what type of venation do its leaves have?

Answer : 

If the plant has fibrous root, the parallel type of venation is there

Example : rice plant

(7) If a plant has leaves with reticulate venation, what kind of roots will it have?

Answer : 

If a plant has leaves with reticulate venation it will have tap root

Example : Carrot beetroot

Answer :

(11) Name the part of plant which produces food. Name the process.

Answer : 

Leaf is the part of body which makes the food for the plant by help of process photosynthesis in which sunlight chlorophyll water and minerals are used to make food.

(12) In which part of a flower, you will find the ovary?

Answer : 

Ovary is at the very lowermost and swollen part of the pistil and it has ovules in it.

(13) Name two plants in which one has joined sepals and the other has separate sepals

Answer : 

The plants in which one has joined sepals are Datura and cotton plants

The plants in which one separate sepals rose and lotus plants.
