## Kseeb Class 6 Science Chapter 5 Separation of Substances Solutions

Welcome to NCTB Solutions. Here with this post we are going to help 6th class students by providing KSEEB Class 6 Science chapter 5 Solutions, Separation of Substances. Here students can easily find all the answers for Separation of Substances chapter. Also here our Expert Science Teacher’s solved all the exercise questions with easily understandable language with proper guidance so that all the students can understand easily. Here in this post students will get chapter 5 solutions. Here all the solutions are based on Karnataka State Board latest syllabus.

Separation of Substances Solutions :

(1) Why do we need to separate different components of a mixture? Give two examples.

We always separate the non useful and harmful components from the mixture to get the pure useful components sometimes even we separate useful components to use specially.

Example : Separating stones from rice, and separating tea leaves.

(2) What is winnowing? Where is it used?

Winnowing is used to separate heavier and lighter components of a mixture by wind or by blowing air and the method used to separate components from mixture is known as winnowing.

(3) How will you separate husk or dirt particles from a given sample of pulses before cooking.

We can separate the husk or dirt from pulses by the method of handpicking and handpicking is a convenient method.

(4) What is sieving? Where is it used?

Sieving is a process in which the impurities husk, dirt, stones are cleared remaining after the process of threshing and winnowing here the useful components fall down from the hole and the big impurities stay above and these technique is used in wind mills, at home, construction site etc.

(5) How will you separate sand and water from their mixture?

These is a very easy process as we known sand settle in water at bottom in the glass we can take the water from there and we can also use the technique of filter paper to separate the water from sand.

(6) Is it possible to separate sugar mixed with wheat flour? If yes, how will you do it?

It is possible to separate sugar from wheat if it is in solid form not powdered by the sieving method.

(7) How would you obtain clear water from a sample of muddy water?

By the filtration process with the help of filter paper we can obtain clear water from a sample of muddy water.

(8) Fill up the blanks :

(a) The method of separating seeds of paddy from its stalks is called ___

(b) When milk, cooled after boiling, is poured onto a piece of cloth the cream (malai) is left behind on it. This process of separating cream from milk is an example of ___

(c) Salt is obtained from seawater by the process of ___

(d) Impurities settled at the bottom when muddy water was kept overnight in a bucket. The clear water was then poured off from the top. The process of separation used in this example is called ___

(a) Threshing

(b) Sieving

(c) Evaporation

(d) Sedimentation

(9) True or false?

(a) A mixture of milk and water can be separated by filtration.

(b) A mixture of powdered salt and sugar can be separated by the process of winnowing.

(c) Separation of sugar from tea can be done with filtration.

(d) Grain and husk can be separated with the process of decantation.

(a) False, because As we know that milk is soluble in water here we have to heat the milk to get the first state of milk.

(b) False, because we cannot separate powered salt and sugar because they both are mixed fully.

(c) False, because sugar from tea can’t be separated because they are mixed fully.

(d) False, because here the winnowing and sieving process are applied

(10) Lemonade is prepared by mixing lemon juice and sugar in water. You wish to add ice to cool it. Should you add ice to the lemonade before or after dissolving sugar? In which case would it be possible to dissolve more sugar?

The sugar can also dissolve faster with the help of temperature and in these condition I think we should add ice after dissolving sugar in water before adding ice we can dissolve more sugar in water.
