= 24 books,

Therefore, there are total 24 science book.

Question no – (9)

Solution :

Total number of adults,

= (24 × 1/5)

= 4 : 24

= 1 : 6

Therefore, total 6 adults are there.

Ratio and Proportion Exercise 6.2 Solution :

Question no – (1)

Solution :

(a) 5, 10, 16, 8

Product of extremes,

=  (5 × 8)

=  40

Product of Means,

=  (10 × 16)

=  160

No, it is not in proportion.

(b) 16, 18, 8, 9

Product of extreme,

=  (16 × 9)

=  144

Product of means,

=  (18 × 8)

=  144

Yes, it is in Proportion.

(c) 24, 30, 10, 15

Product of extremes,

=  (15 × 24)

=  360

Product of means,

=  (30 × 10)

=  300

No, it is not in proportion.

(d) 7, 8, 28, 32

Product of extremes,

=  (7 × 32)

=  224

Product of means,

= (8 × 28)

= 224

Yes, it is in proportion.

Question no – (2)

Solution :

(a) 9 : 12 = 36 : 48

(b) 18 : 25 = 90 : 125

(c) 3 : 9 = 9 : 27

(d) 5 1/2 :  2 3/4 = 10 1/2 :  5 1/4

= 11/2 : 11/4 : 21/2 :  21/4

Question no – (3)

Solution :

P : Q = 6 : 5 : 5

Q : R = 4 : 4 : 1
——————————-
P : Q : R = 24 : 20 : 5

Question no – (4)

Solution :

X : Y = 5 : 4 : 4

Y : Z = 3 : 3  : 4
———————————-
X : Y : Z = 15  : 12 : 16

Now,

X = (10750 × 15/43)

X = 3750 Rs.

Y = (10750 × 12/43)

Y = 3000 Rs.

Z = (10750 × 16/43

Z = 4000 Rs.

Question no – (5)

(a) 11 : x : : 4 :  8

= 11/x = 4/8

= x = 8 × 11/4

x = 22

(b) 5 : 12 : : 10 : x

=  5/12 = 10/x

=  x = 12 × 10/5

x = 24

(c) 7 : 5 : : 14 : x

=  7/5 =  14/x

= x = 5 × 14/7

x = 10

(d) 12 : 21 : : x : 35

= 12/21 = x/35

= x = 35 × 12/21

x = 20

Question no – (6)

Solution :

Fourth proportional of 3, 8 and 12

= 3 : 8 : : 12 : x

=  3/8 = 12/x

=  x =  8 × 12/3

x = 32

Hence, the fourth proportional of 3, 8 and 12 will be 32.

Ratio and Proportion Exercise 6.3 Solution :

Question no – (1)
